The Soup Show recognized as a “Best of the Year” pick!

Hey friends and loves.  So, we came, we made soup, we left.  2010 was a good year. Not only was “The Soup Show” nominated for two New York Innovative Theatre Awards for Performance Art and Stage Management, we also got some love from our friends in the blogosphere.  Here’s an excerpt:

  • Talk about some indelible images. Desiree Burch, Cara Francis, and Erica Livingston reclaim all the “mysteries” of womanhood by refusing to hide any of them; moreover, by upending our expectations (of hygiene, humor, history), they succeed in ensuring that we actually recognize how stupid assumptions are in the first place. And, in handing out so-called “elixirs” to the audience, the ensemble succeeds in making us question what exactly we want, and what we’re willing to do to get it.

And here’s to 2010, we raise a bowl of soup high to a year of truth-telling, questioning and great theatre.

Happy/Sad Soup.

We here at The Soup Show are happy/sad to be performing our last show tonight.  We are happy because over the course of the last week (and the entire run), many many people have attended, making our last week a sold-out one.  Thank you.  We are sad because we wish we could perform this show for every living person.  We feel that we have created something particularly ‘of the moment’ and important.  Not important in that sort of lah-dee-dah kind of way, but in a way that sort of hits you when you see something you didn’t expect, or didn’t even know you needed.

There have been a lot of kind words said about the show and for that we are super-duper grateful.  We’ll include links to those words below, but we’ll also leave you with some quotes from our audience members post-show.

We thank each and every one of you for coming and being part of our soup.  You have made it all the more delicious.

"You showed once again the importance and necessity of live theater."
“Every woman needs to see this, like oh my god.”
"Tell the ladies their soup is delicious."
"…it made me think about my mom and it made me want to cry, but you know, like in a good way."
"So well done - funny, and moving, and relevant."
"…strength is something that we all need, especially now. At the end of the show, we couldn’t stop talking about how uplifting it was for both of us in so many ways."
"It was thoughtful, wise, funny, engaging, daring, moving, beautifully written, performed and directed!"
"This show needed to happen."

Step right up, step right up!  Here’s another fabulous review, y’all!  NYTheatre.com calls The Soup Show “a hearty feminist soup.”
Here’s a snip:
"We need a feminist theatrical perspective…the ideas are laid bare. Mentally, we can dress these women, and although their bodies are distractingly beautiful, their brains are pretty hot too."
You can read the entire review here.  Or you can just come to the show and see it for yourself (I’d do the latter if I were you).  Buy your tickets now, though…the show will sell out and there are just two weeks left!
Yum.

Hi all!  The ladies of The Soup Show have been a busy bunch over the past week!  Look at us!  Up there!  Giving an interview to our new friend Jennifer from WKCR!
We opened the show to much acclaim and have been enjoying our fabulous audiences ever since.  Not only are we performing onstage for you, we’re also appearing over many of the airwaves!  The Soup Show gals can be heard on the East Village Radio program "Hella Fabulous" (click on the March 10th playlist) as well as WBAI’s program "The Women’s Desk Special" (scroll down to the program in the archives).
As if that’s not enough, we got a lovely review from our friends at Theatre is Easy.
Here’s a snippet:

Isn’t this how theater should work? I think so. But unfortunately it’s not until we see it in action, on rare occasion, that we realize we’ve been eating theater gruel all this time when we could have been having, well, hearty soup.

Most importantly of all, please do buy your tickets to The Soup Show now.  You simply do not want to miss this show.
